" I'm glad I'm not a Vegas bookmaker for this tournament. There seems to be more parity than ever in all classes. C-2 and D-1 are especially wide open. "

" At first thought I was not a fan of the 3 day tourney but now I will get to see 6 semi games instead of only 2 possible in the past.Am looking forward to Class D2 with Paxton,Ewing,Clay Center, and Chambers. C1 semis look good with 8 quality teams. Congrats to first timers Omaha Bryan,Papio South,Johnson County, Norfolk Luthern,Superior,Sandhills/Thedford,Greeley/Wolbach, and Hay Springs. "

" Class C2 you have the 2 wildcards Superior & Sutton playing each other in the first round and this will be their 4th meeting this year. "

" Glad to see C2 VB not in Waverly this year. Parking was nice but that was it going to State but never playing in Lincoln was an odd experience. Also didn't like 2 games playing at once in Pershing and noticed that is also changed this year.So Thanks for the changes!!! "

John wrote on November 9, 2008 9:08 pm:
" I really don't like those third place games, if you lose its time to go home or watch the winners play. Rather leave Lincoln 0-1 than 1-2. "

" Congrats to DC Aquinas on making state. They were streak stoppers by ending WPCC 9 yr & Fremont Bergan 4yr state tournament streaks. "

" Six teams have the pleasure of both FB & VB teams still in the running for a championship. Pius & Aurora in Class B,Syracuse in C1, Humphrey SF D1 VB & D2 FB,Ewing in D2,Greely/Wolbach in D2 VB & 6 man FB. "

" Class C-1 is toughest from top to bottom... Bennington could be surprise... they beat a very good West Point-Beemer in districts (I saw that one), and WP-B defeated Battle Creek and blew away C-2 Lutheran High this year.... Any of the 8 C-1 teams at state could win it on a given night.... Not sure any C-2 team could, or any D-1 or any D-2, either.... Here's hoping Syracuse can get the job done in C-1 "

" The Scotus student body had the most spirit I have seen at a VB event in awhile. They cheered during all 4 sets it was fun to watch along with great VB played by both Scotus and Kearney Cath. "

" Great win Papio South looks like Grand Island was thinking ahead. First time at state and you beat GI easily. Gwen Egbert is a great coach that built Papio into a powerhouse before she left for Papio South. "

" Great wins in D2 for both conference rivals Ewing with the great Husker recruit and Chambers with great serving of any team I saw this tourney thus far. Give Chambers credit they are the only team to take a couple sets from undefeated Ewing. The Chambers Coyotes are not scared from a tough schedule with 5 C1 schools this season. "

" Both of John Cook's in state signees playing for state titles tomorrow. Got to love the future of NU Volleyball. And a third is still alive in the playooffs here in TX. "

Donna wrote on November 14, 2008 3:16 pm:
" This is to JOHN. Why wouldn't you want the girls to play another game. One and done is not a true state volleyball experience and very disappointing. Look around at the other states, South Dakota plays out to all 8 places and Iowa also plays for 3 & 4th. Give the girls a better experience. "

Nick wrote on November 14, 2008 5:21 pm:
" Plenty of my friends I have talked to do not and would not want to play in another game. If you can't win the Championship all out, the games lose their luster. Yeah bragging for 3rd would be nice but in the end it doesn't mean much. "

" To Donna:3rd place game not much of an experience playing another game in a High School gym with very few spectators and instead you could be at the Coliseum enjoying the championship atmosphere.Just because Iowa and SD does it doesn't mean Nebraska should. "

3rd place game wrote on November 14, 2008 9:06 pm:
" The state I played VB in had 3rd place matches. My team blew a 14-8 lead in the 5th set in the semifinals and ended up losing 18-16. Needless to say mentally we were not in a good place for the third place match, and lost badly. The team we played trash talked the whole match. As it happened the next season we played them again in the final and we definitely remembered -- we won! I can see 3rd place matches not being so significant for classes A and B where most teams play each other, but for C1 down it gives you a chance to see teams you wouldn't ordinarily play, and possibly an edge should you face those teams in future years. "

ginw fan wrote on November 14, 2008 10:22 pm:
" I personally am hoping for a GINW state championship tomorrow. I think after losing last year in the finals so badly and then coming up just short late in this season, they will be ready to go. Definitly not an easy task ahead though. Cook and Braun are pretty darn good. (and by good I mean amazing!) "

It's not about you - it's about the kids! "

Ron wrote on November 16, 2008 10:36 am:
" Our niece played in one of the 3rd place games and they even won but after the game she admitted it just wasn't fun playing a losers bracket game early in a high school gym. "

bleacher bum wrote on November 16, 2008 3:00 pm:
" Let's survey the athletes who played in the 3rd place game to see how they feel about them. Perhaps the young people could tell the adults what they feel? Personally,I think playing a 3rd place game would be tough. But don't shortchange our student athletes, who may have more resolve than many give them credit for. If they want a consolation game, let 'em swing away. "

HS Coach wrote on November 16, 2008 5:17 pm:
" No one wants to go to the state tournament and play in a HS gym yet the NSAA continues to award the city of Lincoln the contract. I am an assistant on one of the teams that won it all. Our kids commented on the way to Lincoln that they couldn't imagine having to come back and play for 3rd if we had lost in the semi's. Being in the NU Coliseum was amazing but the best Lincoln can do is this facility every other year and only for the finals. Don't HS girls in Nebraska deserve better? The Qwest Center is the most logical place to have the state tourney, I know its 50 miles further east but the facility is second to none. Congrats to all of the participants!!! Special kudos to the Scotus student section--they get what school spirit is all about from start to finish! "
