A look at Nebraska's next opponent on the 2004 schedule, the Baylor Bears.
RECORD/RANKING: 2-3, 0-2 Big 12/Not ranked.
LAST GAME: The Bears gave up just 327 yards, but mounted even less with their offense during Saturday's 30-10 loss to Missouri in Waco, Texas. It was Baylor's ninth straight loss in the league. The Bears were held to a season-low 10 first downs and 173 yards on 60 plays. That was their worst production since being held to 127 yards by Texas in 2002. An example of how things went for Baylor came in the second quarter, when Missouri converted a fourth-and-21 play from the Bears' 31 to set up a field goal.
PLAYERS TO WATCH: Sophomore Shawn Bell replaced junior college transfer Dane King at quarterback after the first two series of the second half, but Baylor turned the ball over on two of his first six plays. Bell hooked up with sophomore receiver Trent Shelton on a 21-yard play for the Bears' only TD with 6:42 left in the game, but coach Guy Morriss said King will start against Nebraska. Daniel Sepulveda ranks second nationally in punting with a 48-yard average. Junior free safety Maurice Lane, who led Baylor in tackles last season, has a team-high 42 with one of the Bears' two interceptions.
ETC.: The Baylor defense has gone 10 consecutive quarters without forcing a turnover. … The Bears bring a 21-game road losing streak into Saturday's game. "We couldn't run, throw or catch," Morriss told reporters after Saturday's loss. "The whole offense couldn't get anything going all night. We couldn't get any rhythm, and we couldn't get anyone to step up and make a play. I thought the defense played well, but we left them on the field too long."
