Led by Tyrell Ross, who won the Kansas Relays’ 110-meter high hurdles, the Nebraska track and field team will compete this weekend at the 99th annual Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ross defeated Olympian Tom Pappas at KU last week and posted one of the best times in the country with a 14.02-second clocking.

“Running against an Olympian gave me an extra boost,” Ross said. “He beat me in the prelims, but I knew I had to defend my title in the finals.”

Husker Karyn LaCour won the women’s 100 hurdles, and Dan Christensen, Andrew Pearson, Dax Danns and Lukas Hulett finished first among college teams in the 1,600 relay.

Husker high jumper Dusty Jonas, whose  best jump is 7 feet, 7 inch, leads a strong field, while Huskers Epley Bullock, Kim Shubert and Erin Hannon pace the NU women jumpers.

The Huskers will play host to the Nebraska Open on Sunday at Ed Weir Stadium. The meet is free   to the public and begins with field events at 11 a.m. and running events at noon.
