Former Nebraska basketball recruit Roburt Sallie told the Journal Star on Monday he’s committed to Memphis.

That doesn’t mean he’s forgotten Nebraska.

“I wanted to play for Nebraska so bad. My heart was there,” Sallie said. “I talk to Coach (Doc) Sadler and Coach (David) Anwar and those guys. I want them to win. We have a great relationship beyond basketball, and that will never change.”

Sallie, a 6-foot-5 guard from Sacramento, Calif., signed with Nebraska in November but was ruled ineligible. His brief enrollment at Nebraska in August 2006 violated a Big 12 Conference rule; a waiver request was denied May 22.

Sallie said Monday he didn’t want to discuss the situation.

“I’ve moved on to the future,” he said. “I don’t want to go back into that stuff. It is what it is. It’s not going to change.”

It did, however, force Sallie into a whirlwind search for a new school. He visited Cincinnati last week and had a scheduled visit to Kentucky this week, but after a weekend visit to Memphis, Sallie decided on the Tigers — the NCAA runner-up last season.

“They’re a proven winning program and their style of play fits my game,” said Sallie, who made his decision Monday afternoon. “It’s been very, very stressful on me to find the right fit.”

It was a double-dose of good news for Memphis; junior Robert Dozier also announced Monday he was withdrawing his name from the NBA Draft and returning to Memphis for his senior season.

Sallie said he’ll move to Memphis in July.

“I’m just glad to get this over with,” he said. “Like I said before, things happen for a reason. I’ve got to make the best of the situation.

“I wish the best of luck to those guys (at Nebraska) this coming season. I hope they win a lot of games.”
