Nebraska senior Jeff Tezak will miss the remainder of the 2008 baseball season after undergoing knee surgery on his left knee later this week.
Tezak, who originally suffered the injury earlier in the year, was able to safely practice and play with a functional brace.
Tezak started the first seven games this season and finished with a home run and two RBIs. Tezak will apply for a medical redshirt to be able to compete for the 2009 season.
“He showed a lot of courage trying to play through it and he was unselfish in tying to help his team, but it is in his best long-term interest to have the surgery now,” NU coach Mike Anderson said. “We’re disappointed that he will be out for the rest of the season, but also thankful that he should be recovered in time for the start of next season.”
Nebraska will face Nebraska-Kearney Tuesday with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
