John McQuinn | Chief city prosecutor | Salary: $114, 600

McQuinn is the city’s highest paid employee. How does he feel about that? “I’m very flattered,” he said.

His office prosecutes violations of the municipal code, handling 38,300 county court cases and 360 juvenile court cases a year. As chief of the prosecution division, he supervises five assistant city prosecutors, four prosecution specialists, two receptionists and a paralegal. He regularly logs more than 40 hours a week, and could likely make more money working in the private sector.

“I think that I am fairly paid,” he said.

He began working for the city as an assistant city prosecutor straight out of law school in 1979.

“I have enjoyed working for the city my entire time,” he said.

Boise, Idaho, once tried to recruit him for his experience advising police and prosecutors, and that’s when he was promoted to the position he’s in now.
