OMAHA, Neb. — Two more cases of West Nile virus have been reported in Nebraska, bringing the total cases in the state this year to five.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services says the new cases are residents of Adams and Keith counties. Cases have also been reported Douglas, Merrick and York counties.

There were 163 cases of the disease reported in Nebraska last year, including four deaths.

West Nile is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito that has picked up the virus by feeding on an infected bird.

Most people who are infected have no symptoms or only mild, flulike symptoms, although some people get seriously ill.
