NEBRASKA CITY— Authorities say overcrowding contributed to a deadly boating accident on the Missouri River near Nebraska City last month.

Ignacio Roman-Bahena drowned on Nov. 22 when the boat he and four others were in capsized.

The Otoe County attorney’s office says too many people were on the boat. The 10-foot long boat had a capacity of two people or 314 pounds, or 354 pounds including equipment and the motor.

The boat was traveling at about 5 mph when water came over the bow and swamped the boat, causing it to capsize about 50 feet from shore.

All five passengers fell into the river. None was wearing a life jacket.
