OMAHA — The mother of a toddler who fell from a moving vehicle and died last weekend will be prosecuted because the boy wasn’t in a car seat.
Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says the mother will be ticketed for misdemeanor child abuse.
Police have said 3-year-old McKenzi Holley wasn’t properly restrained when Saturday’s accident happened. He was wearing a seat belt, but wasn’t in a car seat.
Holley got free, opened the car door and fell out as his mother was leaving the boy’s grandmother’s apartment.
Kleine says he believes the mother was negligent.
The boy’s mother had also been ticketed for failing to properly restrain her three children in a separate incident less than a month before Holley’s death.
