Adams County Treasurer Julia Moeller says she’ll retire in January, but not because of her legal troubles.
Moeller faces charges of tax evasion, official misconduct and abuse of public records. The State Auditor’s Office has turned up evidence that the 66-year-old was making short-term loans to herself using county funds. The loans were as large as $8,000 at a time.
Moeller said she’s notified county supervisors she plans to retire, effective Jan. 5. She said she’s been planning for retirement for a while, and the decision has nothing to do with the charges against her.
