OMAHA (AP) — Omaha police officials say whoever stole a police computer out of cruiser won’t have access to top-secret information.
Officials say the computer was likely taken between Sept. 29 and Oct. 3 from a city lot.
Police say they use the computers, mounted inside cruisers, to run background searches, vehicle registration checks and other types of searches. But, they say the computers must be connected to certain hardware and to the police network, which requires passwords.
Police spokesman Jacob Bettin says the stolen computer, on its own, wouldn’t have sensitive information available.
The stolen equipment was valued at about $2,100.
