OMAHA — A 12-year-old Omaha boy who admitted accidentally shooting his 15-year-old friend to death will be going to Boys Town instead of a juvenile detention center.
A Douglas County juvenile court judge ruled Wednesday that the home for wayward children would be a better rehabilitative option for Kameron Jones.
Jones admitted in court weeks ago to shooting 15-year-old Anthony Ray. The shooting happened at a house on Nov. 8.
Prosecutors have said the younger boy pointed the gun at Ray as a prank and didn’t know that it was loaded.
Jones’ defense attorney, James Martin Davis, says the boy is still traumatized by the incident.
Davis says Jones could be in Boys Town within 10 days.
