OMAHA - Douglas County authorities say a 50-year-old jail inmate has died.

Officials with the county's Department of Corrections say Leo Zuerlein told corrections officers he had a health problem at 10:45 a.m. Saturday. The Omaha man was given medical attention and paramedics were called.

He was taken to Creighton University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:44 p.m.

The cause of death is under investigation.

State law requires a grand jury investigation whenever someone dies in custody or during an arrest.

Zuerlein had been held at the jail since July 7. He was facing a charge of driving under the influence, third offense.
