LINCOLN, Neb. - A member of the Apollo 9 flight is scheduled to lead a discussion at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln about protecting the Earth from asteroids.
Rusty Schweickart's April 22 speech at the Van Brunt Visitors Center is free and open to the public.
The event kicks off a conference at the University of Nebraska College of Law that will examine the dangers, prospects and legal issues of dealing with asteroids or other large objects that come too close to Earth.
The forum is expected to attract experts from around the world, including members of a multinational committee who have made recommendations to establish global guidelines to respond to such threats.
The law college will host the event in conjunction with the Association of Space Explorers.
