FORT CALHOUN - Federal regulators have assigned a new inspector to Omaha Public Power District's nuclear plant north of Omaha.
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission said Monday that Jacob Wingebach will be a resident inspector at the Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant.
Wingebach will help senior resident inspector John Kirkland monitor the power plant's operations. The two men help make sure the plant is complying with all regulations and operating safely.
Wingebach has worked for the commission since 2008. Before that, he served as a U.S. Navy officer on a nuclear submarine.
The Fort Calhoun plant is 19 miles north of Omaha and southeast of Blair.
