PAPILLION — A judge has denied an appeal by a Bellevue woman who took in a 19-year-old who fatally shot eight people and himself at an Omaha mall.
Debora Maruca-Kovac was sentenced to 90 days in jail in August for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The charge was related to a February search of her home, where police found marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Robert Hawkins lived with Maruca-Kovac before the shooting at the Westroads Van Maur department store in Omaha last December.
Maruca-Kovac appealed, arguing she should have received probation because she had no criminal record and improved while receiving treatment.
Sarpy County Judge David Arterburn denied her appeal, noting the sentence was within the guidelines.
