Three hospitalized after fire near downtown Omaha

An Omaha couple are in critical condition and their 2-year-old daughter hospitalized after a fire in their home.

Three people remain hospitalized following a fire early Saturday morning at a house a few blocks from downtown Omaha.

The Nebraska Medical Center reported that a 50-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman who suffered burns in the fire are in critical condition. Their 2-year-old daughter is being treated for smoke inhalation and isĀ listed in good condition.

A hospital spokesman said six other victims of the fire were released after treatment. They included two adults and three children who were in the house, as well as a neighbor who fell while running to help.

The fire was reported about 5 a.m. Saturday.

A spokesman for the Omaha Fire Department saidĀ four people had escaped the home when crews arrived. Two others had to be rescued.
