Three additional cases of H1N1 (swine-origin) influenza reported Sunday bring Nebraska's total to 19 confirmed cases.
The new cases include a Kimball County female in her 50s, a Madison County male between the ages of 5-18, and a Platte County female under age 5, according to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
So far, there have been six cases in Madison County, five in Sarpy County, three in Stanton County, and one each in the counties of Douglas, Kimball, Pierce, Platte and Scotts Bluff.
Fourteen cases have been people between the ages of 5 and 18, two were younger than 5, two were in their 50s and one in their 60s.
Eight have been female and 11 have been male.
People who are sick are urged to stay home from work or school to avoid spreading the virus.
Avoid close contact with people who are coughing or otherwise appear ill.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands.
Wash hands frequently.
If you are moderately to severely ill with a cough, sore throat, fever and body aches (and perhaps vomiting and diarrhea), call your physician.
First call the physician's office and tell staff what symptoms you are experiencing. The physician may want to see you separately from other patients so that you don't expose them in the waiting room.
