Learn and Work Scholarship
Criteria Considered for Scholarship Awards for High School Seniors or existing College Students:
- Financial Need
- Academic & Athletic Excellence during High School or College
- College - 2 year and 4 year candidates considered
- Community and school support demonstrated by endorsement letters supplied with Scholarship Application
- Special consideration given to students demonstrating an ability to overcome personal challenges and obstacles in the pursuit of educational goals
- Spirituality
- Work Study Willingness - scholarship recipients attending College in or near Lincoln will be eligible, if they desire, to supplement their scholarship award with part time employment.
Denominational affiliation of Scholarship Applicant need not be Lutheran.
Special Academic Emphasis Given to Candidates with: (all applicants considered)
- Math, Business and Computer Science
- Music
- Journalism
Frequency of Grants and other Activities:
- Between January 1st and May 1st, 2007 the Executive Scholarship Board plans on awarding up to 6 Scholarships to High School Seniors or existing College students who qualify
- Each Scholarship award winner will receive $4,000 paid directly to the College of their choice
- Scholarship for Accredited 2 or 4 year College ( Special consideration given to Nebraska College applicants)
- Scholarship monies are co-paid directly to college admissions department of the school identified by the Scholarship recipient - Distribution of monies for Scholarship (two payments - half each semester)
- Likely potential exists for annual renewal of $4,000 Scholarship for award winners who re-apply and demonstrate academic and personal excellence while attending college
- Scholarship Winners will be required to supply a picture which will be displayed in a ½ page advertisement in the Lincoln Journal Star.
General Information:
Other minimum requirements are as follows:
- Upper 1/3 of graduation class with strong performances in SAT and ACT testing:
- Attendance at post-secondary institution full-time during the next academic year
- Completion of the attached Scholarship Application
- Affirmation of the class rank, SAT/ACT test scores, financial need and Other Scholarship Question on application by H.S. guidance counselor will be required from Scholarship Winners (so Honesty on Application Please!)
- Applicant and parent/legal guardian (if applicable) must read and sign the application
- To be eligible, students must have applied and been accepted or currently enrolled with an accredited College
- Grants will be awarded based on financial need following the standard definition of need : (among other things - parental income, student income, assets and family size, as well as expenses for tuition, room and board, books and personal spending needs as well as existing loans for College expenses).
- Applications will be accepted through May 1, 2007.
- Each applicant must complete the Scholarship Application in full and mail with required and optional attachments to:
