Nebraskans someday may be able to keep their credit scores under lock and key with only one request.
On Monday, Sen. Steve Lathrop of Omaha introduced a bill (LB177) that would let consumers keep their credit scores private forever with just one request, instead of having to renew their requests for privacy every seven years.
Two years ago, Nebraska joined other states in passing a so-called credit freeze law. It lets people keep credit bureaus from releasing their credit reports.
Doing so doesn’t prevent identity theft from occurring, but it can reduce the consequences of stolen identities being used by crooks to gain credit cards or car loans.
