Sen. Chuck Hagel’s campaign committee has raised nearly $1.1 million and had $483,000 in cash on hand at the end of June.
“There is no doubt that if Senator Hagel announces plans to seek re-election, we will have all the money we need to win,” Hagel political director Kevin Chapman said Friday.
Although Hagel has made no decision about his 2008 political plans, Hagel for Senate will continue to raise money this month at scheduled fund-raisers in Ohio, New York and Washington.
Fund-raising activities are planned in Nebraska in August, Chapman said.
Money raised by Hagel for Senate could be used in a re-election bid or a 2008 presidential quest.
Most of the $388,000 raised during the three months ending in June came from individual contributors. Nearly $150,000 was raised at two fund-raising events in Omaha headlined by Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
While $322,000 was raised during the second quarter from individuals, about $65,000 was raised from political action committees.
Earlier this month, Attorney General Jon Bruning said he had raised $721,000 by the end of June for his Republican Senate campaign.
Bruning is a candidate for Hagel’s seat. Hagel has said he’ll announce his political plans later.
