Registered sex offenders would be barred from using social networking sites such as MySpace or Facebook under a bill before the state Legislature.

Sen. Scott Lautenbaugh of Omaha introduced the bill (LB97) Friday at the request of Attorney General Jon Bruning.

The proposed law also would keep defendants and their attorneys from recovering child pornography or copying it. Bruning says this keeps a child from being further victimized by more people seeing the images.

At law enforcement or state-operated facilities, the defendants and attorneys could review the materials to prepare for trials.
