Nebraska wide receiver Niles Paul intends to enter a plea Tuesday in connection to a DUI stop, according to his Omaha attorney.

"We have struck a plea where he can take responsibility for his actions and move on," said attorney Eric Whitner.

He expected Paul to enter a plea and be sentenced at the same hearing Tuesday.

Whitner said Paul has been given an opportunity to attend diversion on a couple of charges, but he didn't give specifics of the agreement, saying it was not set in stone yet.

Paul, 19, had been set for a bench trial Tuesday in Lancaster County Court on charges of reckless driving, minor in possession and driving during suspension.

Though arrested originally on suspicion of DUI, he never was charged with it.

At 2:08 a.m. April 12, Paul was pulled over by a State Patrol trooper for speeding on U.S. 77. The patrol said the trooper smelled alcohol on Paul and conducted a field sobriety test, which he failed.

Whitner said Paul has learned a lot from the incident.

The Omaha North grad and member of the 2008 Academic All-Big 12 second team started four games as a sophomore last season.

He caught 23 passes for 214 yards and also handled kickoff return duties. His biggest moment came when he returned a kickoff 85 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown to help Nebraska break open a game against San Jose State.

Paul will be the second Nebraska football player in court in two days in Lincoln.

Monday, Quentin Castille asked for his case to be continued for three weeks to try to reach a plea agreement in a minor case over a missing license plate.

Police ticketed the 20-year-old for false registration, unlawful display of plates and no proof of ownership on April 5.
