Lisa is a single mother of three children ages 2 months, 6 and 11 years old. She has been unemployed since March due to complications with her pregnancy. When Lisa gave birth to Sophie in August her life was forever changed. Sophie was born with Congenital Central Hypoventilation Syndrome and remains hospitalized where she receives around the clock care. She is now dependent on a trache and vent to help her breathe. Lisa is moving from Grand Island to Lincoln to be closer to Sophie's doctors. Lisa is unable to bring Sophie home until she is able to find a place to live. She has a couple of potential places to rent, but will need help with the deposit and first month's rent. Money has been tight for Lisa since she has not been able to return to work due to Sophie medical issues. Anyone who wishes to donate to Lisa would be much appreciated. Madison is a 24-year-old single mom of two children. She is struggling with a meth addiction, and when her father died this spring, she relapsed. Elizabeth is 45 years old and has started a new job at a local retail store. She has been living at St. Monica's Therapeutic Community for the last six months where she is working on maintaining her sobriety and rebuilding her career. Money has been very tight for Elizabeth who also has some health issues. She could really use some gas gift cards to get her back and forth to work, a gift card to Wal-Mart or Target so she can buy some new shoes appropriate for her new job and some shampoo, conditioner and contact solution. Aleshia is a 17-year-old girl who no longer has contact with her parents, but is being raised by her grandmother. Aleshia lives in St. Monica's Adolescent Girls Substance Abuse Treatment program and is making great strides at overcoming her addiction to alcohol. Jane is a single mom in recovery from addiction and severe depression. She volunteers and is searching for employment. She recently broke her glasses and they can't be repaired. Marvin was homeless, struggling with alcohol use and post-traumatic stress disorder. Now he is in recovery and living in his own apartment. Tracy is the victim of abuse and stalking by a past boyfriend. She no longer feels safe in her apartment since he knows where she lives. Jennifer is a single mom who struggles to make ends meet and works hard to provide for her family of four boys and a girl. She needs shoes and clothing for her kids and for herself. Michael and Maria have a heavy burden this year since one of their sons has leukemia. Michael is a bricklayer, so his work slows down in the winter months. The family needs shoes and clothing. Elsie lives on her own in a low-income, senior apartment. She does well unless she has unexpected expenses. Over the years, treating her many medical problems has exhausted her savings. Jerome, 62, is disabled and unable to work. He is on Medicare but does not qualify for Medicaid. Jerome would like to get a chair lift to help him stand up and sit down. Grace recently left an abusive relationship; she is now raising her seven children alone. Her washer and dryer recently stopped working. She is now washing clothes by hand or using a laundromat when she can afford it. She needs a dependable used washer and/or electric dryer than can be delivered to her home. Deborah's former husband and father of three boys (Grant, 12, Jay, 15, Michael, 17) made the choice to not be a part of their lives. Deborah works extremely hard at a full-time job that barely covers her bills. She receives no public assistance, but picks up additional hours at work to provide opportunities for her sons to participate in extracurricular activities. The family typically falls short on funds for gasoline to get to school, work and sporting activities. Fifteen-year-old Derek, his 17-year-old sister Dahlia and their mother, Ruth, struggle with mental health disorders. Ruth, a single parent working at a fast-food restaurant, also worries about the supervision and well-being of her children. Rene's husband died in an accident, leaving her alone to raise their three daughters: Nina, 9, Natalie, 6, and Maura, 3. One of Rene's biggest challenges is getting to and from work. Brenda's oldest child has been identified as gifted while her second child has been diagnosed with autism. Brenda does her best, but often feels overwhelmed. Denise and Richard are parents of two children with special needs. Kara has Asperger's Syndrome and Johnny has ADHD. Both parents work hard trying to meet their basic needs and to access special services. Until recently, both children have been seeing a specialist for educational therapy. Now, Denise and Richard have exhausted all their resources and are unable to cover the cost of the therapy. Timothy and Margaret have four sons, ages 8 to 18 years. Recently, Tim lost his job and now works as a long haul truck driver. Working on the road means less time at home with his family. He has little time or enough income to complete the rehab of his home that was started in June. Since checking into Friendship Home with her mom, 12-year-old Maggie has been matched with Jessica. Jessica is a college student that volunteers in Friendship Home's Match Program. Latisha is a single mom with two daughters -- Janeicia and Monique. They came to Friendship Home to escape the abuse of Latisha's ex-husband and have just moved into their own apartment. Latisha has returned to school to complete her degree and sometimes has a hard time making ends meet each month. Ben came Nebraska from the South, where he was laid off a job he had for 10 years. His wife and children stayed with their family in Mississippi until Ben saved enough money to bring them to Lincoln. He found a job and began to save money for his own place and to bring the rest of his family to Nebraska. He just found an apartment, paid his first month's rent and moved his family here. Now, Ben's family needs a couch, a queen size bed, a TV, sheets, blankets, towels, toaster, coffee maker and a trash can. Julie works the night shift so she can take her children to school and be home in the evenings. A friend stays with her children overnight for her. Maryann is a single mother of a 1-year-old daughter. She works part-time cleaning houses. Maryann has to drive to each of the homes she cleans. She has a very old car and recently had two tires go flat. One of the passenger windows was broken recently and she has it taped up. She has been driving to the gas station between jobs to put air in the tires so she can get to the next house. Maryann does not have the money to repair any of these things. Rhonda is a young mother of a 1-year-old daughter. She is homeless and living in transitional housing. She is a full-time student working towards a degree in the medical field. Her dream is to be a physician's assistant. Rhonda's car is very old and needs an oil change and some brake work. Donna is a 13-year-old animal lover. She is being raised by a single mother and she is an only child. Donna is a good child who is quiet and keeps to herself. She taught herself how to play the drums by using a pair of drum sticks that her grandparents bought for her and playing on couch cushions. Lacey is kind-hearted sixth-grader. Throughout her life she has been teased by her classmates and her self-esteem hasn't been the greatest. Trevor is a fifth-grader, who is very talented at playing the drums. His father is in a nursing home and his mother lost custody of him due to neglect and drug abuse. He lives with his grandparents. Thirteen-year-old Lucy started playing the violin in the fourth grade. She receives straight As in school and is the oldest of four children. Her mom is unemployed and her dad doesn't get many hours at his job. She is selfless and worries more about her siblings than herself. Sarah has been in and out of the hospital frequently since December 2008 for kidney problems, mini strokes and a blood clot disorder. She then was diagnosed with lupus after suffering a heart attack in September. Sarah was excited to learn that she will have a grandchild in June. Mother, Karen, doubts that Christmas will be coming to her family this year. Father, Paul, was laid off, and she only works about 20-25 hours each week, which barely covers rent and bills.
