Lemon, an attorney with considerable Nebraska state government experience, was selected following a nationwide search.
He will be paid $91,250 annually and will begin his duties on July 1.
Lemon succeeds Les Tyrrell, who retired March 1 after serving 18 years in the position.
The Real Estate Commission regulates various aspects of the Nebraska real estate industry. The commission licenses and regulates some 7,400 Nebraska real estate professionals -brokers and salespeople.
The commission is governed by six commissioners and the secretary of state. Self-funded by licensee fees, the commission has a staff of 11.
Lemon is currently president of the Nebraska Tax Research Council and works as a political and government policy consultant.
From 1995 to 2005, he served as Nebraska chief deputy secretary of state.
Lemon's previous experience includes serving as legal counsel to the Nebraska Legislature's Appropriations Committee and as a budget analyst in the Legislative Fiscal Office.
