University of Nebraska President J.B. Milliken will attend a global higher education conference in Paris Sunday through Wednesday, NU announced Thursday.

Milliken and other U.S. education experts will join Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, and senior government officials for the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's World Conference on Higher Education.

UNESCO convenes the conference every 10 years to develop a global higher education agenda and set priorities for the coming decade.

Milliken will represent U.S. higher education's innovation agenda.

"The conference is critically important," he said in a news release, "because it comes at a time when appreciation of U.S. higher education, especially the role of the public research university in innovation and economic development, is growing - not only in the developing world but in the advanced economies and among our neighbors in the Western Hemisphere."

Milliken has been active in a number of higher education groups, including the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities, and serves on the board of the Nebraska State Chamber of Commerce, among other organizations.
