A 17-year-old was caught going 95 in a 55 mph zone during a traffic selective Thursday in Saunders County.

Deb Collins, a spokeswoman with the Nebraska State Patrol, said the teen ended up with a speeding ticket. He and his 17-year-old passenger were cited on suspicion of possession of drug paraphernalia, too, she said.

“This is the reason we are out here,” State Patrol Capt. Steve Ayres said. “Speeding, driver inattention and driving too fast for conditions are big factors in crashes. We want to send a message to motorists to slow down, pay attention, and give themselves the best opportunity to get to where they are going safely.”

The special enforcement effort took place from 10 a.m. to noon and focused on Nebraska 79 and county roads near Valparaiso.
