Lincoln woman will talk today to Dr. Phil about how she came close to abandoning her teenage daughter  using the state’s safe haven law.

Courtney Galloway, 34, will appear on the show this afternoon on Omaha Channel 7 and Lincoln Channel 8.

Galloway will talk on the show about how she became overwhelmed with caring for her 15-year-old daughter and used a loophole in the law to get her daughter the care she needed.

Nebraska was the last state to enact a safe haven law and did so for any child up to age 18. As a result state hospitals have seen 28, and possibly the 29th today in Omaha, surrendered using the law. Most have been teenagers.

The Nebraska Legislature will meet next Friday to address the question of age in the safe haven law.

The Dr. Phil Show will air at 3 p.m. on Channel 7 in Omaha and 4 p.m. on Channel 8 in Lincoln.
