Police ticketed several door-to-door salespeople — including a high-risk sex offender, a woman with pending felony theft charges and a man without I.D. — this week for soliciting in Lincoln without permits.
Thursday, police cited a high-risk sex offender and a woman who has charges pending against her for felony theft after they allegedly harassed a woman who wouldn’t allow them to shampoo her carpet.
The woman told police the high-pressure pair came to her home on the 1900 block of Southwest 26th Street around 6:30 p.m. and tried to sell her a Kirby vacuum cleaner, said Lincoln Police Chief Tom Casady.
When the woman declined, the pair allegedly told her they wouldn’t leave her alone until she allowed them to shampoo her carpet, Casady said.
The woman told them to leave, and they allegedly cursed at her. They did not leave until the woman threatened to call police, Casady said.
After the woman gave police a description of a blue van, an officer stopped a vehicle matching that description, Casady said.
The driver, David Underwood, 42, of Wahoo told the officer he was supervising the two salespeople, Casady said.
The three were working for L.S. Enterprises LLC, 2949 N. 27th St., Ste. 100, Casady said.
Underwood, who had a valid peddler’s permit, was cited on suspicion of aiding and abetting solicitation without a permit, Casady said.
Ths suspected salespeople, Tomas Tellez, 31, 1234 S. 20th St., and Johnna Lipskey, 20, 5052 R St., were cited on suspicion of disturbing the peace and soliciting without a permit, Casady said.
Lipskey, who has charges pending against her for felony theft, had applied for and was denied a permit in January, Casady said.
Tellez is not able to get a permit because he is a felon and Level 3 sex offender, Casady said. Tellez also had been cited last summer for soliciting without a permit, Casady said.
Wednesday, police arrested a man without any ID for allegedly selling magazines without a permit in the 500 block of A Street, said Chief Tom Casady.
The man, who identified himself as Kevin L. Walker, 21, of Oakdale, Calif., said he was with a company called Southern Circulation, Casady said. He was arrested and jailed on suspicion of soliciting without a permit.
People always should ask door-to-door salespeople to show a peddler’s permit, Casady said. If they can’t produce one, they likely do not have one, he said.
“You never know whether (you’re allowing) a sex offender in to shampoo your carpet,” he said.
