Residents are encouraged to give their opinions on the city budget by attending the city’s final town hall meeting Tuesday.

“Priority Lincoln” is an effort to solicit public opinion on how the city should spend tax dollars. The effort began in March with a phone survey of 600 residents.

“The answers to our budget challenges aren’t at city hall, they’re in the hearts and minds of the people we serve,” said mayoral aide Rick Hoppe.

The city has partnered with Leadership Lincoln on a series of town hall meetings to allow residents another venue to express opinions about budget priorities.

The last meeting will be Tuesday at Lincoln High School, 2229 J St. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the meeting will be from 6-8 p.m.

The city has borrowed an audience response technology system from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln to allow for instant feedback from those attending the town hall meetings.

The city is working with the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center and the UNL Bureau of Sociological Research on the project.

Here’s the budget schedule:

June: The mayor’s budget will be released to the public.

July: The City Council will vote on tentative changes.

Aug. 11: A public hearing is scheduled.

Aug. 25: The City Council is scheduled to adopt the budget.
