A Lincoln mom will spend nine days in jail and pay a $1,500 fine for buying kegs of beer for her daughter and friends.
Cheryl Beckner, 44, had pleaded no contest to three procuring charges in May.
At her sentencing Friday in Lancaster County Court, Judge Gale Pokorny told her that responsible parents in Lincoln don't need another parent who has "so lost her moral compass that she casually buys a keg for 15-year-olds."
"The rest of Lincoln, Nebraska, doesn't have to put up with that," he told her.
Beckner told the judge she knew what she did was wrong.
Police arrested Beckner early Jan. 25 and ticketed 22 minors - ages 15 to 20 - for possession of alcohol after an anonymous caller tipped officers to a party at her home at 5501 Locust St.
When Beckner answered the door, the officer smelled beer from the basement.
Police said there was so much alcohol in the home that Breathalyzers - used to measure blood-alcohol content - recorded 0.03 percent just from being carried inside.
Pokorny said police found an empty keg and a second one half-full in the basement. The floor was so saturated with beer that people slipped as they walked.
Beckner first denied knowledge of the party, Pokorny said, but later said she bought the kegs.
"The parents of teenagers in Lincoln face a daily challenge trying to guide their children through a jungle of temptations and diversions," Pokorny said.
It takes real courage to say no to children who say, "Everybody else gets to do it. Why, can't I?"
Then Pokorny sent her to jail.
