An Omaha man believed to be the first in Lancaster County accused of violating the state’s concealed weapons law was sentenced to two days in jail and a year of probation.
Donald Watts, 52, crashed his motorcycle while trying to make a U-turn at about 7:30 p.m. Aug. 27 on U.S. 6 in Waverly, according to Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner. Watts’ blood-alcohol level was .229, nearly three times the legal limit.
He said a deputy investigating the crash learned Watts had a permit to carry a concealed weapon and found a handgun concealed in a pouch on his motorcycle. But Watts didn’t tell rescue workers or deputies, which he was required to do by law. Wagner said he also violated his permit by drinking alcohol while carrying the concealed weapon.
This week, Watts was sentenced to two days in jail, a year of probation, a $600 fine and had his license impounded for a year for driving under the influence and concealed handgun permit violation. He was convicted at trial.
