Police say a 21-year-old showing off his new 9mm handgun to a friend early Sunday accidentally shot him with it.
Romane Preston, 2917 Everett St., got his firearm certificate last week and bought a 9mm gun, Police Chief Tom Casady said.
Just before 2 a.m. Sunday he was showing a 21-year-old friend the gun in a driveway near Northwest 50th and West Thatcher Lane in Air Park when Preston accidentally shot him in the neck.
His friend was lucky. It was a flesh wound, and he was treated and released for the injury to his neck.
Police ticketed Preston on suspicion of unlawful discharge of a firearm.
