According to the Kearney County Sheriff's Office, the accident was reported at 7:37 a.m. at the intersection of Nebraska 44 and U.S. 34/Nebraska 6, two miles east of Axtell.
A Lincoln Northeast High School graduate was killed in a two-car accident near Axtell early Friday morning.
According to the Kearney County Sheriff’s Office, the accident was reported at 7:37 a.m. at the intersection of Nebraska 44 and U.S. 34/Nebraska 6, two miles east of Axtell.
A southbound vehicle driven by Leland A. Cyr, 51, of Aurora was struck while crossing U.S. 34/Nebraska 6. Cyr’s car was struck by a westbound car driven by Kevin Kober, 33, of Roseland.
Cyr, a 1976 graduate of Lincoln Northeast, was pronounced dead at the scene. Kober was not injured.
The accident is under investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol.
Cyr was a fan of NET Public Radio, according to his obituary. His family requested that memorial donations be sent to the radio station in leu of flowers.
Services for Cyr are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Aurora United Methodist Church. Burial is at 2 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Franklin, where Cyr had lived recently.
