About 375 people have registered to volunteer for the Special Olympics 2010 USA National Games in Lincoln.
That's great, say organizers, but they'll need about 8,000 in all.
Director of Operations Services Jesus Cabrera said his office is pleased with the number of people who have volunteered so far, but he needs more - and soon. The National Invitational Golf and Softball Tournament is set for July 31-Aug. 3 of this year.
About 500 volunteers are needed for that event, a precursor to the 2010 Games, said Sarah Leeth, director of marketing and fund development.
The 2010 Games, set for July 18-23, 2010, are expected to draw about 3,000 athletes, 1,000 coaches and 15,000 family members and friends to town.
Several groups have pledged volunteer support, Cabrera said. They include: Black Hills Energy, Clipped Wings, Duncan Aviation, KPMG, Lincoln Young Professionals Group, Lincoln Central Labor Union, Moose Lodges and Union Bank & Trust.
