There are wrong numbers, and then, there are wrong numbers. A Lincoln police officer learned the difference last weekend when he received a text message and photograph on his cell phone.
Accompanying the message — “hope u like" — was a picture of a woman flashing her breasts.
Police tracked the message and picture back to the sender, who was no doubt surprised to learn that she had not only misdialed her boyfriend’s number, but had inadvertently rung up an officer of the law.
But, fear not — though perhaps and embarrassment, the risque' picture violated no laws, police said this week.
Lincoln officer arrested on suspicion of DWI
Lincoln police officer Jennifer Schnekel, 28, was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of driving while intoxicated near 20th and Superior streets.
Police observed Schnekel’s vehicle being driven erratically around 2:15 a.m., and pulled her over. Lincoln Police Chief Tom Casady said Schnekel’s blood-alcohol content tested “well over the legal limit” of .08.
Schnekel, who joined the department six years ago, was taken to the Lincoln Detox Center and released later Friday.
Police said she will be removed from street patrol duties pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
In addition to possible criminal prosecution and penalties, Schnekel could face professional sanctions, including suspension for a period of time without pay.
Online tip leads to Lincoln man’s arrest
An online tip to a national child advocacy group led to a Lincoln man’s arrest on allegations that he possessed and distributed child pornography.
Investigators with the Nebraska State Patrol arrested Wayne Wasson, 46, of 5830 Princess Margaret Drive on Thursday, according to State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins.
She said the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a report on the CyberTipline of someone using a Yahoo account to provide child pornography.
The tip led to a month-and-a-half long investigation by the State Patrol.
Collins said the investigation led to the discovery of images of child pornography associated with a Yahoo account identified as Wasson’s.
Investigators served a search warrant on Wasson’s home and found a computer and digital storage media.
On Thursday, he was taken into custody and lodged in the Lancaster County Jail.
According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the CyberTipline is mandated by Congress to report allegations of child sexual exploitation, including child pornography and online enticement of children.
Reports can be made 24 hours per day, seven days per week online at www.cybertipline.com or by calling (800) 843-5678.
