Police arrested three men on suspicion of breaking into cars and stealing audio equipment early Thursday after someone at work at 4:30 a.m. spotted two of them in his car.

Capt. Jim Thoms said the man at his business on Progressive Avenue, north of Cornhusker Highway just west of North 48th Street, called police. He got a description of the vehicle they left in.

Officers found it at 2500 N. Ninth St., with three men inside and allegedly a collection of stolen auto accessories.

The three men — Tavis Hansen, 19, 2541 N. Ninth St.; Larry Alt, 25, a transient; and Calvin Forget, 22, 2830 N.W. Third St. — were cited on suspicion of theft, Thoms said.

Before 8 a.m., police had taken four more reports of car break-ins and an audio amplifier, car stereos and DVD players taken between midnight and 4:20 a.m. in the 2000 block of South Folsom Street and the 1600 to 1900 block of Knox Street.

The stolen items were recovered, though the cars sustained damage.
