The Lied Center for Performing Arts is undergoing a change at the top.
Interim executive director Ann Chang-Barnes stepped down Friday to become a part-time interim artistic director at the performing arts center, according to University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman.
Associate executive director Bill Stephan has been named interim executive director.
The move allows Chang-Barnes to return to performing as a concert pianist and teaching music. She toured Europe in May and June as a Fulbright Scholar.
"I am looking forward to spending more time on my career as an artist and educator while I continue to play a role at the Lied Center for Performing Arts," she said in a release.
Perlman appointed Chang-Barnes in May 2008 to be full-time interim executive director of the Lied Center following the resignation of previous director, Charles H. Bethea.
Stephan will handle the Lied's administrative duties. He joined the staff as associate director this past winter. He had been the director of the Nampa Civic Center in Idaho for the 10 years.
"I am very excited to take on greater responsibility at the Lied and will focus on enhancing the Lied's ability to serve our community with great performances and civic engagement," Stephan said.
No search is under way for a new executive director, said Meg Lauerman, University Communications director.
Stephan, who was hired after a national search, will keep the interim title for the next 18 to 24 months, Lauerman said. The chancellor's office will review the position then, she said.
