Nebraska Democrats filled their void of 3rd District House candidates Monday with two filings on the deadline day.
Pierce County Democratic Chairman Paul Spatz of Osmond drove to Lincoln to file for the western and central Nebraska seat held by Republican Rep. Adrian Smith of Gering.
Jay Stoddard of Grand Island also entered the Democratic race.
Stoddard was a candidate for secretary of state in 2002 and 2006 and a candidate for University of Nebraska regent in 2004.
Smith is a candidate for re-election to a second term.
