A fire destroyed a mobile home in north Lincoln Saturday night.

No one was home at 2800 Candlewood St. at the time.

Craig Mortensen owns the home, which his son, Randy Mortensen, lived in with his dog, Randy Mortensen said. Neither were there Saturday night when the fire started.

Firefighters were called to the mobile home park shortly after 6 p.m. when a neighbor reported seeing smoke and flames.

Lincoln Deputy Fire Chief Leo Benes said three engines and three trucks responded to the fire. Because of wind gusts, homes to the south of the residence were evacuated for a short time, he said.

No injuries were reported, Benes said.

Randy Mortensen said he was at a friend’s house with his dog when someone came to tell him his house was on fire. He was not actually living in the mobile home, he said, and utilities had been cut off.

Kevin Dodds, who was in a nearby mobile home, said he looked out the window when he saw flashing lights and saw flames shooting from a side window.

Firefighters were continuing  Saturday night to investigate the cause of the fire.
