Police say five women in the same neighborhood have reported being molested by a man as they were walking at night.

* On Tuesday, a 22-year-old woman was walking home after getting off a University of Nebraska-Lincoln bus between 7:50 and 8:10 p.m., said Officer Katie Flood. The woman was halfway down an alley in the area of 22nd and 23rd streets from R to S streets when she noticed an unknown man walking toward her from the parking lot at 2221 S Street.

The man grabbed the woman from behind, touching her inappropriately outside her clothing, Flood said. He then tried to pull her toward some bushes, but she yelled for help and he ran away to the east.

Later, as officers were interviewing people in the area, two women told police something similar had happened to them earlier that night as they were walking home from UNL between 7:30 and 9:45 p.m., Flood said. An unknown man rode up on a small bicycle behind the women, ages 22 and 26, and said, “Excuse me.” The women parted so he could pass, and as he rode through he reached out and grabbed the 26-year-old’s left buttock. He then rode away.

* On Feb. 11, a 23-year-old woman was walking along the sidewalk on R Street from 13th to 14th streets around 9:20 p.m. when an unknown man rode up from behind her on a on a dark blue mountain bike, Flood said. The man grabbed her left buttock as he passed, then he rode off to the north into campus.

* Around 8 p.m. on Feb. 10, a 22-year-old woman was walking home from UNL and talking on her cell phone, Flood said. As she was climbing the stairs to her apartment at 2221 S St., an unknown man ran up the stairs behind her and touched her inappropriately outside her clothing, Flood said. She screamed and he ran away to the south.

Police do not believe these incidents are related to the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl near 27th and O streets on Saturday, Flood said. In that incident, a man talked to the girl for several minutes before pulling her behind an office building and assaulting her.
