A district court judge swore in a jury of seven men and five women to hear a case facing a former Lincoln man, brought from Florida to face a murder charge.
A pool of 85 potential jurors became 36, then 12, in the case against Todd Baker, who prosecutors believe killed Anne True a decade ago.
Attorneys had yet to select three alternates before opening statements could be made Wednesday.
On Sept. 29, 1996, a dog trainer and his five black Labrador retrievers happened upon True’s skeletal remains, which wouldn’t be identified as hers until October.
Investigators believe her body had been in the field north of Lincoln, less than a mile from Interstate 80 near 40th Street and Arbor Road, for about two months.
In 2004, Baker’s ex-wife made incriminating statements to police about his alleged involvement in her killing.
