After record low temperatures Friday and Saturday mornings, the upcoming week should seem more like mid-May than mid-July.

"We have a large area of high pressure sitting over the western U.S.," said National Weather Service forcaster Dave Eastlack.

"Meanwhile, there is a large upper-level low anchored over the eastern U.S."

The result is a flow of cooler winds from the northwest.

The wind brought with it temperatures of 49 degrees in Lincoln and 53 degrees in Omaha on Friday, beating out previous records of 54 and 55 degrees, respectively.

Saturday morning's low of 50 degrees in Lincoln beat out the city's previous low of 55 degrees. And in Omaha, another 53-degree low broke the 57-degree record.

Temperatures are expected to increase slightly through the week while remaining well below average, and thunderstorms are a possibility, Eastlack said.
