Pulitzer Prize-winner and former U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser will read from "The Poet's Guide to the Birds" at Wachiska Audubon Society's annual summer potluck picnic on Thursday.

The public is invited to the special event which will be held at Dr. Larry and Peg Fletcher's home on the prairie east of Lincoln at 6:15 p.m.

Serving will begin at 6:30 p.m. Following the picnic, Kooser will read selections from "The Poet's Guide to the Birds," which he co-edited.

Kooser is a Presidential Professor of English at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the author of 12 collections of poetry. Copies of the book will be available for sale and signing.

Please bring one or two dishes to share along with your table service, serving utensils, and a table cloth if you have one. Refreshments will be provided. Following Kooser's presentation, guests will be able to tour the prairie.

The Fletchers live along the MoPac East Recreational Trail. The address is 1900 S. 105th St.

To get there, go to the intersection of 105th and A streets, turn south on 105th and drive across the MoPac East Trail to the Fletcher's house.

Please consider carpooling because parking will be tight. Pull up directly behind the last car so all space is utilized. Parking attendants will direct guests.
