Former Sen. Bob Kerrey will serve as finance committee chairman for Democratic congressional candidate Max Yashirin’s campaign.
“As a fellow veteran, I know Max is committed to serving our country and Nebraska, and I am glad to help,” Kerrey said Thursday.
Kerrey, Nebraska’s former U.S. senator and former governor, was awarded the Medal of Honor for his service in Vietnam. He currently is president of New School University in New York City.
Yashirin, a former Marine sergeant who served in Iraq, is seeking the Democratic nomination for the 1st District House seat held by Republican Rep. Jeff Fortenberry.
“I decided to help Max’s campaign because I believe in him and his vision for a new direction in Washington,” Kerrey said.
Yashirin said Kerrey’s support demonstrates that Nebraskans have “a real choice about who represents them in Washington.”
