Dec. 16 — Christmas Youth Handgame and War Dance, Indian Center Inc., 1100 Military Road, 1 p.m. Free, open to the public. Freewill donations. Events will kickoff with a participatory handgame, followed by a blessing and traditional meal (corn soup, frybread, ham, side dishes). Dec. 16 — 3rd annual Holiday Ball with Friends, Villager Motor Inn, 5200 O St. Social hour, 6 p.m.; dinner, 7 p.m., followed by dancing. Dec. 16 — Christmas in Western. Sponsor: Western Community Club. Annual display of miniature Christmas trees at Struckman-Baatz Public Library (refreshments served starting at 9:30 a.m.). Firefighters’ annual pancake breakfast, 11 a.m., fire hall. Santa Claus will visit Community Hall early afternoon with treat bags for children.

Dec. 17 — “Twas the Year Before Christmas,” Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2110 Sheridan Blvd., 10:30 a.m. worship service. Children’s Christmas musical.

Dec. 17 — Elk’s Club Christmas Party, Pershing Auditorium, 226 Centennial Mall South, 1-3 p.m. Get into the Christmas spirit with live holiday performances by The String Beans and many other local entertainers. Free admission. More information: John Brooks, 466-1144.

 Dec. 17 — A Christmas Celebration, O'Donnell Auditorium, Nebraska Wesleyan University, 50th and Huntington Ave., 3 p.m. The Lincoln Civic Choir features the "Christmas Oratorio" by Saint Saens. Joining the choir will be the NWU Choir, Summit String Quartet, Hamlow Elementary School Choir, Herald Trumpets and Masako Nakamura, organist. Audience carol sing will conclude the program. Dec. 24 — A Mannheim Steamroller Christmas Eve, Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 12th and M streets, 10 p.m. Jackson and Almeda Berkey of Mannheim Steamroller will perform with the Saint Paul Chancel Choir excerpts from "Rhythmic Carols," "Anniversary Carols" and the premier of "O Little Town," commissioned by Saint Paul United Methodist Church. All pieces are composed by Jackson Berkey and will be conducted by Almeda Berkey. Additional music will be performed by the Berkeys and guests. Free.
