Lincoln police say a Detroit man was stabbed during a disturbance Thursday over someone spilling beer off a balcony.

The brew was spilled around 12:15 a.m. from the balcony of a second-floor apartment at 4915 Huntington Ave., said Officer Katie Flood.

It hit a woman standing below the balcony, and a friend of hers went upstairs to discuss it, Flood said. The friend left, but afterward, people at the gathering on the second-floor balcony began arguing over who had spilled the beer.

The argument got physical, and Michael L. Williams, 34, allegedly stabbed his sister's 39-year-old boyfriend in the left arm, Flood said. The boyfriend needed stitches.

Williams, who lives at 5447 Benton St., was jailed on suspicion of second-degree assault.
