A group of five to 10 people stole a handgun from a man near Ninth and A streets early Sunday, after the man fired the gun in the air to stop a fight, police say.
The fight began at about 1:20 a.m., after the group arrived uninvited at a party in the neighborhood and were asked to leave, Lincoln Police Capt. David Beggs said.
In the fight, four party guests reported being hit or doused with pepper spray. All refused medical treatment.
A neighbor saw the fight, got his .45-caliber handgun from his vehicle and threatened the group to stop the fight. After he shot one round into the air, the group took his gun and beat him up, Beggs said.
The uninvited group left, but several of them allegedly returned two hours later, when another fight broke out. Party guests then restrained 21-year-old Jonathan R. Alexander of 7137 Beaver Hollow Circle and waved down a passing police car, Beggs said.
Police arrested Alexander on suspicion of misdemeanor assault and failure to comply, Beggs said.
