Women’s Week, coordinated by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Women’s Center, kicks off Sunday with a series of educational and entertainment events.

All events except the March 13 banquet are free and open to the public; banquet tickets can be bought at the Nebraska Union Information Desk for $20 ($10 for students).

Free lunches for the speaker series are available for those who register with the center by Friday.

Here’s the schedule:

* Sunday, 4 p.m.: “Angels and Troublemakers,” a performance by Pippa White, St. Mark’s on the Campus, 1309 R St. One-woman play about the great reformers who endured threats and harassment to end child labor, improve conditions for the poor and oppressed, and further women’s rights.

* Monday-Thursday, March 13: Collaboration and Craftwork: Celebrating Women’s Traditional Knowledge, Rotunda Gallery, Nebraska Union, 1400 R St., 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Interactive display of quilting, knitting, beading and other crafts. (Demonstrations from 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday).

* Monday, noon: “Women as Agricultural leaders in a Global Arena,” Jeannine Lane, East Union. Lane has been involved in agriculture since 1984 and focuses on empowering young women to become tomorrow’s ag leaders. 11 a.m. -1 p.m.: “Peer Educators are Campus Leaders,” Nebraska Union, Peer Educator Network display.

* Tuesday, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: “Women in Business: What you Should Know,” Nebraska Union. Susan Puglia will discuss a study done by leaders in the global economy of executive women and men that reveals strategies for addressing the advancement of both women and men.

* Wednesday, March 12, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: “Combating the Challenge of Society’s View of Beauty While Taking Personal Responsibility for One’s Own Body,” by Kathyne Jackson, Nebraska Union. The author of “Dear Diary: What my Doctor Never Told me About Liposuction,” explores her motivation for undergoing cosmetic surgery and talks about her expectations and disappointments. 6 to 8 p.m.: “Black Women and Revolutionary Leadership,” Nebraska Union. Pamela Hill, an Afrocentric educator, lecturer, writer and activist, is executive director of Liberation through Education, a venture she created as the foundation of her research and lecture series.

* Thursday, March 13, 11:30-1 p.m.: Learn Over Lunch: LGBTQ Student Leadership, Nebraska Union. Panel of student leaders who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer will discuss the importance of LGBTQ representation across campus, how to find leadership opportunities and how they got involved. 6-8 p.m.: Third-Annual Women’s History Month Banquet: Celebrating 30 Years of Women’s (and Gender) Studies at UNL, Wick Alumni Center, 1520 R St.

* Through Monday, March 31: Women Artists Guild display, Nebraska East Union, Loft Gallery.
