The League of Women Voters of Lincoln-Lancaster County is inviting the public to five debates Monday featuring candidates on the ballot for the spring primary election. The primary is May 13 and the general election is Nov. 4.
The debates will run from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Bevins Family Life Center on the main floor of Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 1144 M St. 5 CITY-TV also will tape these debates for rebroadcast.
In the schedule below, the candidates are listed in the order of their opening statements.
11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Legislative District 21, nonpartisan: Justin Larsen, Tami Soper, Ken Haar, Vern Barrett, James Arthur Jeffers, Curtis Schell
1:15 to 2:15 p.m.: Legislative District 25, nonpartisan: Brent Smoyer, Kathy Campbell, Travis Wagner
2:30 to 3:30 p.m.: Legislative District 27, nonpartisan: Dan Marvin, Chuck Stepanek, Colby Coash
4 to 5 p.m.: NU Board of Regents District 1, nonpartisan: Tim Clare, Don Costello, Earl Scudder
5:30 to 6:30 p.m.: U.S. Senate, Republican: Pat Flynn, Mike Johanns
A debate among the Democratic Senate candidates was cancelled because only one of the candidates, Larry Marvin, was able to attend. The other candidates are Scott Kleeb, Tony Raimondo and James Bryan Wilson.
Debate co-sponsors include the Mayor’s Commission on Women; the Lincoln Area Agency on Aging; the National Council of Negro Women Lincoln Section; the North 27th Street Business and Civic Association; the NAACP; and Saint Paul United Methodist Church.
Funding for Lincoln-area debates is provided by the League of Women Voters of Lincoln-Lancaster Education Fund. The League of Women Voters of Nebraska Education Fund is providing funding for the Senate debate.
